“Law relating to execution of Power of Attorney”

On account of the ever-growing responsibilities coupled with paucity of time, one often finds it difficult to
attend to every chore personally. It is in such times, that one desires to appoint someone as one’s
agent and authorize such an agent to perform the chore for and on behalf of oneself. One such legal
document used to deploy authorization in an express form is called the Power of Attorney (“POA”)
Chapter X of the Indian Contract Act, 1872 (“the Act, 1872”) read with the Powers of Attorney Act, 1882
(“the Act, 1882”) lays down the substantive law relating to POA.
This note looks into the law dealing with execution of a POA.
